FIJ Diversity Fellowship

The three-month fellowship comes with a $30,000 grant, which can be used for reporting expenses and a stipend. The deadline to apply is Oct. 7, 2019. The winner will be notified by December 31, 2019. The Miami Herald Media Company will provide the fellow with workspace and other editorial support.

Be sure to select “FIJ 2019 Diversity Fellowship.” The application requires certain materials be uploaded, and applicants must answer a few questions. Title
Enter a short title for your submission.
Grant proposal
Your proposal should be thorough and compelling. The project should dig into issues of consequence and of interest to readers of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald. “What we are looking for are proposals for stories that uncover something we didn’t know and engages our readers,” said Nancy San Martin, managing editor of el Nuevo Herald. The story will be published in both Spanish and English, in print and online, in the Miami Herald and in el Neuvo Herald.
Present a narrative no longer than three pages to explain what your investigation aims to uncover, why the investigation is important, how you would go about it and why the story is groundbreaking. If the topic has received previous coverage, explain how your story is different.
Budget
Upload an estimated budget for your investigation. A $30,000 grant will be awarded to pay for travel, document fees, equipment rentals and other reporting costs. Any unused funds will serve as a personal stipend. To see a sample budget, visit http://bit.ly/sample_budget.

Provide a resume no longer than three pages.
Bio
Provide a bio no longer than 100 words.
Two work samples
