The U.S. Department of Education issued a nationwide directive to states and school districts to scrutinize their laws and regulations to prevent teachers who have engaged in sexual misconduct with students from obtaining new positions elsewhere. The directive cited an investigation by ProPublica and KQED, with support from the Fund, which found that California has not revoked credentials of at least 67 teachers who engaged in sexual misconduct with students, and 14 of those teachers were rehired by other schools.
