Nursing home chain that was accused of understaffing may sell facilities to company accused of same conduct, grantee reports

The New Bedford Light in Massachusetts continued investigating a local for-profit nursing home chain that has been accused of deliberately understaffing its facilities, which can endanger residents. The company reached a $4 million settlement with the state last year to resolve claims that it put patient health and safety at risk because of deliberate understaffing. With support from the Fund, the local news outlet reported that the company is now in talks to sell 11 of its 14 nursing homes to another for-profit chain – which has also been accused of deliberately understaffing its facilities.
