Many reporters are working on stories about data centers, and the Fund has received a wave of grant proposals from journalists who want to dig deeper into the topic.
On Wednesday, October 7, we held a webinar with two of our grantees who have covered data centers extensively in recent months. They shared their tips, tools and resources.
The one-hour session covered how to investigate the tactics corporations are using to build data centers quickly, how to cover community response to planned data centers and how to investigate the potential impact of data centers.
Speakers
- Lauren Ober, whose reporting for Reveal (with support from the Fund) examined local response to plans for a huge data center in Northern Virginia.
- Edward Donnelly, who (with support from the Fund) uncovered corporations’ covert lobbying efforts to change regulations so they could build data centers in Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The session was moderated by veteran investigative journalist Ellen Weiss, who serves as president of the Fund’s board of directors.
