Freelance journalist Beth Shelburne will share how she spent a year obtaining financial records, court documents and other records for a groundbreaking series on the Alabama Dept. of Corrections’ handling of excessive-force lawsuits. Shelburne’s Alabama Reflector series, supported by the Fund for Investigative Journalism, found that the state paid tens of millions of dollars to settle nearly 100 excessive-force lawsuits since 2020. She’ll discuss her reporting and share tips with other journalists in a conversation with award-winning journalist Ellen Weiss, vice president of the Fund’s board.
Everyone who registers for the Nov. 21 webinar will receive a tip sheet from Shelburne and a recording of the session.
