Reporters often face prohibitively high fees to obtain local, state and federal records — running into the hundreds or thousands of dollars. In this webinar, veteran journalist Kimbriell Kelly will share strategies and practical tips for working with officials to lower the fees for open records.
Kelly, who serves as vice president of the Fund’s board of directors and editor-in-chief of Chicago Public Media, will discuss how to negotiate with records administrators and how to escalate concerns about fees without risking lengthy delays in obtaining records.
The discussion will include tips for both freelance journalists and nonprofit outlets. The session will be moderated by veteran investigative journalist Ellen Weiss, president of the Find’s board of directors.
